The Student Inclusion Team provides advice, information and support to disabled applicants and students. We work with faculties and other professional services to provide an accessible and inclusive environment.

We are seeking a full-time Apprenticeships and Placements Support Advisor to lead on support and adjustments for disabled degree apprenticeship learners and to assess and recommend reasonable adjustments for disabled students undertaking compulsory placements.

This is an exciting new role and will suit someone with significant experience of assessing the support needs of disabled students in HE and implementing support.


You will work alongside Disability Advisers, a Pre-Entry Disability Adviser, Disability Assistants, a Dyslexia Adviser and a SpLD Assessor, with two key aspects to your role.

You will lead on advice, information and support for disabled learners on degree apprenticeships.

Your other key area of work will be leading on the support of disabled students in their compulsory placement settings.


There will be an opportunity for a mixture of campus-based and home-based working - 3 days minimum required on campus.


The primary responsibilities of this role are:

  • Leading on advice, information and support for disabled learners on degree apprenticeships, including assessing support needs and implementing support, and liaising with colleagues working with learners.
  • Leading on the assessment of the needs of disabled students in compulsory placement settings and drawing up Placement Action Plans which support them appropriately, taking account of competence standards, with the main focus on health and allied health placement settings.
  • Playing a key role in the development of compliant and seamless processes for the implementation of support for disabled learners on degree apprenticeships, in liaison with colleagues across the University
  • Leading on the development of guidance for disabled students in selfadvocating for their adjustments on placement, to enhance their independence.
The essential requirements for the role include (please refer to job description for full details):

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of assessing need and providing support within Further or Higher Education
  • Experience of managing a significant caseload and accurate record keeping
  • Previous disability awareness / equality training
  • Knowledge and understanding of study support for disabled students
  • Knowledge of current disability legislation and Disabled Students' Allowances
  • Ability and willingness to consider new ways of working and new technology
  • Understanding of confidentiality / data protection
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Accredited or senior accredited member of the National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP) or committed to achieving accreditation at the earliest opportunity.
