Financial Controller (6 month FTC)
Location - Blackburn
Salary - £75,000

Simpson Judge are working with a well-established retail business based in Blackburn, who have an opportunity for a Financial Controller in a 6 month fixed term contract.


Duties include:

  • Actively participate in driving forward best practice and to provide support and encouragement to all members of the Transactions Shared Services team
  • Work in close partnership with the following stakeholders:
  • The Finance team to ensure accurate, timely delivery of financial accounting and reporting within a robust and best practise controls environment
  • The Group CFO, Group Finance and Group Commercial Finance teams, to keep them informed and support the Group teams with any adhoc requests. To support knowledge, information sharing, consistent good practice and joint commitment to the resolution of accountingissues across the Group
  • The Transactions Shared Services teams to ensure strong financial control across centralised AP, AR, Banking and Master Maintenance functions. Proactively engage with the Transactions Shared Services team to ensure a strong working relation between teamwith the aim of continuous processes improvement and effective knowledge sharing
  • Develop strong cross functional partnerships with various departments (e.g. Fuel, Merchandising, Operations and Maintenance, Payroll, HR, IT etc.)
  • Support the specialist functions to develop commercial and operational understanding of key contracts to ensure finance accounting is in line with contractual understanding and commerciality
  • Support the commercial team within the country finance team to prepare budgets and forecasts
  • Provide financial planning and analysis support to the country finance team to assist in delivering financial targets, with a focus on cash generation and return on investment
  • Focus on YoY performance and understand key underlying business trends to support continuous financial and operational improvement
  • Challenge existing and develop new financial processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting, creating workflow efficiencies where possible
  • Ensure adherence to IFRS accounting standards
  • Ensure all local audit requirements are met
  • Review of monthly management accounts from trial balance to financial statements
  • Oversee the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes
  • Adhoc projects as required

Skills/Qualifications:

  • CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified accountant
  • Previous senior leadership, commercial, and business partnering
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
