You will be an advisor for the UK- Best Available Techniques' (BAT) Team. We lead on delivery of new environmental standards for UK Industry.
Many large industrial installations are required to use BAT to reduce emissions to air, water and land.
The UK BAT Team has been established to deliver this new duty and to produce the BAT Conclusions for the UK.
The new regime will use the BAT concept principles of; a transparent, collaborative, data and evidence led process that safeguards and build on the current high levels of environmental protection.
As the Advisor you will be pivotal in the UK BAT Team. You will provide vital assistance to the team by becoming a super user of our new IT system (UKBATIS).The IT system is being created specifically for the team and will require testing and development to support the delivery of BAT Conclusions documents.
You will:
- Help to develop, test and use a new IT system
- Log, manage and analyse data submitted by industry
- Prepare business and progress reports
- Be able to respond flexibly and the new BAT process develops.
We are looking for someone who will have:
- Knowledge of the regulation of industrial installations.
- Experience with project delivery principles
For example:
time planning, prioritising and delivering tasks to challenging deadlines.
- Good verbal and written communication and IT skills, for example through delivery of briefings and presentations.
- Is able to work with individuals and teams both internally and across other organisations.
The team
UK-BAT team is embedded within the Environment & Business directorate but reports to DEFRA and the Standards Council for progress and delivery.

Experience/skills required
You will have experience and understanding of:
- The use of MS SharePoint
- Use of Microsoft tools such as word and excel.
- UK industrial environmental legislation, in particular the IED and the Environmental
You will be skilled at:
- Verbal and written communication, through delivery of briefings and presentations
- Project outcome assessment
- Working with individuals and teams both internally and across other organisations
- Responding flexibly to challenges and adept at building consensus

We'll hold a reserve list for 6 months. Depending on your skills/experience you may be offered an alternative post.

£37,462.00 per year
