Role Description

Job Purpose


Reporting to the site Technical Manager, this role has responsibility for Food Safety management for the site and deputises for the site QA Manager/ Technical Manager.


  • This role will provide support, guidance, trended data and technical expertise ensuring the site remains focused on all aspects of food safety.
  • As a part of the QA function, this role will work with the site to ensure compliance with food safety legislation, achieve highest grade possible in all external audits, increase knowledge of food safety and improve ways of working, based on the values below:

Key Responsibilities

  • HACCP
  • Annual verification of the process flows, organisation of the verification by suitable HACCP team members.
  • Discuss any changes to products with NPD and bring the information to the regular HACCP meetings.
  • Discuss any changes in equipment, process or shift patterns with the appropriate depts. and bring the information to the HACCP team for review.
  • Ensure all the relevant audits are in place for the paperwork associated with any CCPs. Review and address any failures with the relevant teams
  • Take an active role in the HACCP team.
  • Pest Control
  • Be the site contact with the pest control contractor.
  • Accompany the pest control contractor where appropriate on site visits.
  • Review all findings from routine visits and the Biologist reports with the contractor.
  • Issue out any corrective actions from pest control visits to relevant site teams and follow through to completion. Ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all paperwork or electronic recording systems relating to pest control are kept fully up to date.
  • Arrange and attend regular review meetings with the pest control contractor to ensure quality of service.
  • Trend the results for any infestations and drive continuous improvement to prevent future issues.
  • Be the site SME on pests and pest infestation prevention. Role within external audits is to present the pest control records.
  • Food Safety Customer Complaints
  • Facilitate a full investigation into all foreign body customer complaints work with all appropriate depts. to find the root cause and to implement improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Form project groups to investigate any food safety related customer complaint trends, lead the group and report the findings and actions to be taken through the QA Manager.
  • Work with the Quality Services coordinator to ensure all customer required reports are completed for food safety related complaints and up loaded where required.
  • Ensure any serious food safety incidents are brought to the attention of relevant depts. on site eg on the QA board.
  • Work with the Technical Manager to develop a customer complaint reduction plan, work with onsite teams to ensure the plan is executed.
  • Cleaning and Hygiene
  • Ensure the cleaning risk assessment is completed for the site and it is reviewed on a regular basis. All high risk areas must have an action plan developed to ensure the risk is reduced.
  • Develop and maintain, with planning and Ops, a matrix to ensure that the risks of cross contamination are reduced, by the run order of the lines, for all allergens and free from claims.
  • Work with all teams on site to ensure appropriate cleaning procedures are written and being followed. Ensure all records of cleaning are relevant, auditable and show due diligence.
  • Develop cleaning validation programs.
  • Review the results of the GMP audits on site and create and lead project teams to improve the hygiene standards across site.
  • Liaise with the external chemical company to ensure the chemicals used are appropriate for the jobs required, meet the relevant H+S needs of the site, are compliant with customer COPs and are cost effective.
  • Provide the dept. trainer with the relevant information to ensure all personnel involved in cleaning are aware of the requirements, procedure and H+S considerations.
