Job summary:

Defence Intelligence (DI) is seeking a motivated individual to support the development of the intelligence assessment profession within Defence.

This exciting role will play a pivotal part in improving intelligence assessment standards through the training and development of our growing cadre of all-source intelligence assessment specialists.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week


If post is based in London it will attract the relevant London weighting, if Wyton or Chicksands then this does not apply.

Job description:


We are looking for a professional, motivated professional to share their experience, knowledge and enthusiasm on the DI's flagship intelligence analysis courses.


Defence Intelligence, Futures & Analytical Methods - Learning (DI FAM-L) is responsible for the delivery of training, including the Defence Intelligence Analysis Module (DIAM) (focussing on structured analytical techniques, epistemology, psychology and best practice in generation of intelligence assessments) and other education and training events to support DI and defence priorities.

These roles work in a small team that designs, adapts, and delivers lectures and workshops on analytical techniques, delivering DI's flagship intelligence analysis course, enabling students to attain a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification.


This small (six educators) active team is directed by Deputy Chief Defence Intelligence (DCDI) to deliver analysis training to civilian and military staff working in Defence Intelligence, and members of the wider Intelligence Community.

The Instructors carry the primary responsibility for training by the Branch, and maintaining standards of delivery. The post also assists the Branch Manager with the management of the Branch, and covers in their absence.

The Instructors have shared responsibility for FAM-L input to researching the requirement for specific analysis training across the Defence and wider intelligence communities and, where appropriate, designing, facilitating and delivering this training.

The majority of training is conducted at UKSC Chicksands. Training is sometimes requested to be delivered at other UK sites, and abroad.

Person specification:


  • In conjunction with the other FAM-L instructors, deliver, validate and update as necessary all elements of the Defence Intelligence Analysis Module (DIAM) and followup support to analysts in the workplace.
  • Assist with the design and delivery of other analysis and assessment courses and workshops, including with other partner organisations and the single services.
  • Assist with the design and delivery of overseas capacitybuilding training to friendly nations, and in accordance with overseas customer requirements. This may provide opportunities to travel abroad.
  • Assist in the research of future requirements for intelligence analysis training across the defence and intelligence communities. Build relationships with a wide network to understand changes in future analytical methods and IT requirements, changes in teaching methods and other courses available to staff.
