Anglian Water offers a flexible approach, this role provides you the flexibility to work from home and from an Anglian Water office.

Your base location will either be in our Lincoln or Huntingdon office.


The Data and Digital Services is team is transforming the way data and digital services are provided in Anglian Water, moving from an order-taker service to a trusted, informed partner.

The Digital team will work alongside the business Subject Matter Expertsto co-create data-first, user centred design products that drive business performance and productivity using modern and emerging digital technologies and practices.

The team will continue to maintain and evolve these digital products over their lifetime asthe business evolves, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and valuable assets for the business.

The team will keep their work in step with emerging technologies and practices to ensure their activities continue to align to externally recognised best practices.


The Software Engineer is a key member of a Digital Squad working together to maximise the value of products assigned to their squad, and is aligned to an area of the business.

Our squads operate using Agile Scrum and DevOps practices, and the role holderwill work with a Product Owner, Scrum Master, UX, UI, and User Researchers, other software engineers; and also with end users and business stakeholders.

We also collaborate very closely with Architecture and Security, and Service Operations.

Our aim is tocreate software that upholds our principals:

maximise value; user led design and high user satisfaction; reliable; secure by design; and meets our organisational architectural standards.


What will you be doing?


Our squads are self-managing on a daily basis, using kanban boards to manage work and priorities, so the ability to self-manage tasks and personal motivation is important.

You will also need to collaborate to align your work to your team, product, and strategicgoals.

Retrospectives are a key part of our culture and how we improve our practices and tooling, and you will contribute ideas and action changes to improve our processes, systems and efficiency.


Key responsibilities:


  • Partner with the business, product owners, stakeholders and end
- users to define and implement technical solutions.

  • Contribute to development standards and architectural patterns including cloud and onpremise; web and mobile within agreed timescales.
  • Understand our Product Vision and develop UI designs, reusable software, services and microservices.
  • Perform code reviews, and strive for continuous improvement.

What does it take to be a Software Engineer?


You'll have experience of software engineering using various programming and design methodologies, and you'll have knowledge of some of our technologies -.Net including C#, ASP.NET, Azure, Serverless Azure functions, Angular framework and TypeScript, Cordova,Visual Studio, VSTS, N-Unit and Git.

Your exposure to SQL and NoSQL databases such as Azure, CosmosDB and MongoDB and knowledge of software and database design patterns will allow you to add real value to a team striving to continuously improve the serviceprovided to internal and external customers.


While being a great engineer, you'll demonstrate excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills, and have a positive and enthusiastic approach.
