Band 4 Support Worker in Eating Disorders


We are looking for a Support Worker to join an exciting new branch of SET CAMHS Eating Disorder Service in North East London NHS Foundation Trust.

This post has been created as part of the new investment for an intensive treatment pathway working with children and young people and their family and carers.

This is a great opportunity to join our highly skilled, dedicated and friendly team.


The intensive treatment service is being developed to support young people who are at risk of requiring a hospital admission.

The intensive treatment pathway will support families to manage the eating disorder at home wherever possible in order to reduce the number of inpatient admissions and enable young people to remain at home with their families, alongside their support networks.

When hospital treatment is required, the intensive pathway will aim to reduce the length of stay needed in specialist eating disorder units or paediatric beds by providing more intensive support to families to allow young people to be discharged home.

The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team, alongside the existing CAMHS team to meet the young person's physical and psychological needs.

This innovative approach will help us to provide the best quality care to families affected by eating disorders during some of the most challenging points in their recovery.


  • To support young people with an Eating Disorder in the community.
  • The aim of the role is to deliver care to reduce admission to Tier 4 services and support early discharge promoting community care.
  • To work using an assertive outreach model to provide support in the home, clinic and paediatric wards.
  • To support with meal planning to the young person and family.
  • To work alongside senior clinicians to provide therapeutic support.
  • To assist with specialist interventions such as family and cognitive behavioural interventions to young people and their families seen within the NELFT eating disorders team. Training to be provided
  • To provide meal support in the home.
  • To carry out physical observations
  • To provide support for families and young people when they are admitted to acute hospitals.
  • To provide consultation and advice on eating disorders and related psychological issues to other services within Mental Health services, and external services/provisions, e.g schools, acute hospitals and social services.
  • To provide consultation and advice on risk assessment and risk management of service users with an eating disorders

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Do you have a passion for helping young people struggling with mental health problems such as eating disorders? NELFT Children and Young People's (CYP) Eating disorder service in Essex.

The service is commissioned to provide assessment for CYP presenting with symptoms of an eating disorder, and treatment for CYP with a diagnosis of an eating disorder across the county of Essex.


Team members benefit from excellent CPD opportunities focused around developing skills in working with eating disorders and related conditions in children and young people.

The service provides the latest in evidence based NICE compliant psychological interventions to children, young people and their families with an Eating Disorder.

The team's multi-disciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of individuals with an eating disorder is a real strength.


We are seeking an individual with the knowledge and skills to work as part of a multi-professional team and be innovative in their approach to supporting this client group.

The post holder is expected to work well within a team setting however should be able to deliver an autonomous service as part of the role, operating within recognised professional guidelines and the overall framework of the eating disorder service's policies and procedures.
