We have an opportunity available for a
Maintenance Operative/Gardener to join us based in
South Birmingham, working in our five mental health recovery units.

They are based in Maypole, Moseley and Edgbaston.

You will join us on a part time, permanent basis and will receive a competitive rate of
£10.25 per hour.



Servol Community Servicesis a charity providing person-centred support to adults affected by and recovering from mental health conditions in Birmingham and London.

More about the Maintenance Operative/Gardener role:

We offer some great employee benefits (after probation period has been completed).The contracted hours for this role are 15.75 per week (times and days to be agreed at a later stage).

Due to travelling to and from five units with tools, you must have yourown transport and appropriate vehicle insurance that covers using the vehicle for work.


Key responsibilities of our Maintenance Operative/Gardener:

  • Provide a comprehensive maintenance & repair service across all Birmingham units
  • Carry out a range of tasks including basic joinery, plumbing, painting & decorating, general building work
  • Carry out any patching up or touching up of decoration as and when required
  • Routine landscaping/lawn mowing/pruning of the grounds at each unit
  • Comply with safe working practices & report faulty equipment & potential hazards
  • Travel to other sites & on occasions be on call to carry out emergency repairs outside of normal working hours
  • Test and record water and radiator temperatures as specified
  • Maintain accurate notes and maintenance logs
  • Check the fire alarm points weekly, including fire exits, door retaining devices & fire emergency lights

Skills and experience required to become our Maintenance Operative/Gardener:

  • Proven experience in maintenance, painting & decorating, gardening, building, DIY and general housekeeping
  • Some technical knowledge of plumbing and electrics
  • Have a friendly, calm and approachable manner to deal with a range of situations and issues
