World Leader in Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.


We have a Centre of Excellence and Innovation in Witney for the manufacture of test strips and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing and testing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems.


We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technical Operations team as a Product Test Lead, accountable for managing all aspects of test Libre sensor testing laboratory and team.

The Product Test Operations Lead is expected to ensure activities are performed in the manner that supports a Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, Good Manufacturing Practice, and best in class working practices


Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and develop a growing team of employees and leaders within area of responsibility and be accountable for their performance whilst providing direction to ensure product availability, maintaining regulatory compliance and optimising productivity.
  • Accountable for running the laboratory specialising in testing our Freestyle Libre product range sensors, including but not limited to release testing, stability testing and complaint testing.
  • Support with development trial testing, as well as New Product Introduction and test method development activities
  • Collaborate in Site Expansion projects, with particular focus on design of new laboratory
  • Deliver quality and compliant product on time, in full and cost effectively to meet the needs of the business and customers, in a manner that supports core values and behaviours of the UK Operational Excellence ideals, and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Facilitate optimisation of the testing area by directing support staff e.g. leads, Engineering, Schedulers, QA and technical
  • Maintain all compliance to Laboratory standards, ensuring adherence to FDA, GLP, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and Abbott standards by adhering to and maintaining EHS systems, programmes, procedures that manage EHS risk and by demonstrating leadership and commitment through actions and provision of sufficient resources.


Driving ownership and accountability in your team, your focus will be on supporting the ongoing development of both process and people, managing strategic relationships both internally and externally, collating and reporting departmental metrics, and delivering business critical activities.


To be successful, you will ideally be degree qualified, however those with proven work based experience and a higher level qualification are also encouraged to apply.

You will be able to demonstrate exposure to Operations, Manufacturing and/or Laboratory environments (including working knowledge of GMP, Technical, and Quality requirements), ideally within a regulated business.


You will be a natural people leader, with proven experience in 2nd line management (including strategy, resource planning, financials etc, as a preference).
