ABOUT ME

I am a young man in my 20's diagnosed with Severe Learning Disability, Mucolpolysaccharidosis Type III also known as Sanfilipo Syndrome (Degenerative life limiting disease).

It is a rare genetic condition causing speech and other developmental delays, respiratory infections, sleep problems, behaviour issues - compulsive behaviours and hyperactivity.

I also have Anxiety, Autistic Tendencies and Sleep Apnea.

This is what I have, not who I am

I live in my own bungalow just down the road from my family where I am supported by my dedicated team of support workers.

My family is really important to me and I see my parents every day. They are involved in my care and support.

I communicate using short 2/3-word sentences, using pictures, gestures, and vocalizations.

I can also use WidgetGo and PECs.

My best days are those where I'm happy and calm, I am likely to express myself with loud vocalisations and big smiles on my face.

I enjoy spending time sitting, humming whilst flicking through my book. I find comfort in repetitive activities, familiar TV programmes and puzzles.

I would like to feel safe with my staff.

I want to experience all my normal activities such as walking my family dog, trampolining, riding my tripod bike, swimming, playing football and sailing.

ABOUT YOU
I am looking for experienced personal assistants or support workers to support me on a 2:1 basis.

I require support with personal care, nutrition and hydration, medication intake, daily physical and social activities, accessing community and support with my psychological and emotional wellbeing.

They should be good communicators, reliable and able to support my busy daily schedule. They would need to communicate effectively with all involved in my care and to work as a team.

They need to be able to swim to support me with my swimming activities.

I like being supported by enthusiastic, proactive, and compassionate people.

Experience and understanding of positive behaviour support in supporting me is essential because at times I present with behaviours that challenge and need additional support in communicating my needs.

My family and my family dog are very important to me, so it is important that support workers are also able to engage with them.

They must also be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and integrity, promoting my independence and respecting my home.

They would follow my bespoke care plans, risk assessment, my PBS Plan, and any medical protocols in place.

They will learn to recognise my triggers and how to minimise the likelihood of these appearing and to take reasonable steps to use the least-restrictive strategies to manage challenging behaviours.

My parents, professionals, current staff, and Solo have worked hard to ensure that my routines, needs, and preferences are described clearly and are easy to follow.

You will be supported to learn about me and to support me in a person-centered way.
