Description
Media Services Porton is responsible for the provision of
onsite made microbiology media for the research community
and the Food, Water and Environmental department. There
is also a central site-wide autoclave sterilisation service
provided from the production area. The area works to
ISO9001:2015 standards and works hand-in-hand with its
colleagues in Media at Colindale. Strict following of standard
operating procedures and attention to detail is required of all
operatives.
The work includes the active involvement with engineering
staff to ensure the validation work of equipment is carried out
to UK Health Security Agency safety standards.

  • To run the autoclaves in the area
  • Main building, VTF and
media production

  • To collect appropriate waste from labs across the site
  • To check that items are correct and in good condition
  • To ensure delivery/collection of customer discard or yellow
bins

  • To ensure all production assistants and self are wearingsuitable protective personal equipment in accordancewith departmental and UK Health Security Agency Protective Personal Equipment policy
  • Work with engineers on the servicing and validation of the autoclaves
  • To train production and other staff in the safe operation and use of autoclaves as required.
  • Support trainees as required in all their activities andensure they are adequately trained in all operational processes requirements
  • Take responsibility for checklists of routine daily tasks such as area and equipment cleaning and servicing.
  • Contribute to the care, maintenance and security of the premises and equipment by taking responsibility for the setup and smooth running of all equipment in section and assist in problem solving issues for both equipment and procedures.
  • Make minor adjustments/repairs and provide localmaintenance to equipment as required
  • To sign and file service reports and collection documents
  • To work with the Head of Media to ensure risk assessments and SOPs are up to date
