East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a clinical skills tutor.

Working within the multi professional education team, the undergraduate team supports the educational activities of all undergraduate medical education.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, approachable and highly motivated individual to join the team to provide clinical skills teaching to our medical students.


Excellent communication skills and the ability to support trainees is essential as is the ability to demonstrate open, friendly and approachable behaviour.

Demonstration of clinical credibility and evidence of striving for new and innovative ways to improve the delivery of clinical skills training and education to make the most effective use of resources are essential for this role.

This is a part time post at 30 hours per week and predominately based on the Ipswich site, fixed contract until 3rd May 2024.

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only

  • To meet the requirements of the Service Increment for Training (SIFT) contracts with medical schools by ensuring that appropriate teaching and resources are in place and delivered to a high standard
  • To work autonomously as required across the Trust and other organisations
  • Demonstration of clinical credibility
  • Striving for new and innovative ways to improve the delivery of clinical skills training and education to make the most effective use of resources.

  • Where learners feel that they will not be able to achieve particular skills, provide reassurance, support, and clinical advice to achieve success.
  • Active member of network of clinical skills trainers
  • Participate in the ongoing review of clinical procedures for medical students and development of Cambridge Clinical School documentation and resources
  • Examining at events at Cambridge Clinical School
  • Attend appropriate medical school meetings and liaise with relevant medical school staff Liaise with undergraduate specialty tutors in matters relating to education placements and student supervision and teaching
  • Formally assessing practice of clinical skills procedures through DOPs assessment
  • Undertake audit projects and produce reports as directed by Medical Education Facilitator
  • Contribute to the implementation and development of undergraduate and post graduate medical education Trust wide
  • To teach practical clinical skills to the medical students within the education centre and at the bedside
  • Report and advise the medical education facilitator of any areas of concern as identified by self, learners, tutors or other staff groups
  • Act as a clinical and professional role model and develops and maintains own credibility through the demonstration of consistent high standards of clinical care
