Purpose of Role:

  • To take responsibility for the efficient and reliable transportation of Trust vehicles to and from ambulance stations, Fleet workshops and other contractors throughout the SECAmb area often working alone and in full compliance with current legislation.
  • To move fleet vehicles throughout the SECAmb area; to plan movements efficiently and to assist workshop staff as required. Carry out minor repairs and maintenance on Trust vehicles as instructed and trained.

Key Objectives of the Role:

  • Transport Ambulance Service vehicles throughout the SECAmb area to and from ambulance stations, outside contractors and Fleet workshops ensuring all relevant documentation is completed, jump starting of vehicles using jump start pack (training provided). Changing headlight bulbs, wiper blades and indicator bulbs.
  • To be responsible for all equipment and vehicles which the post holder is required to use and also keep records as necessary.
  • To be aware of health and safety requirements.
  • Complete a visual check of vehicle before driving and report any defect concerns to SECAmb
  • Delivery and collection of stores, spare parts and documents as directed.
  • Check and ensure that all work carried by the post holder out conforms to the standard and quality required.
  • Observes and complies with all Service Orders, Safety Notices, instructions or orders or other statutory requirements applicable to working environments.
  • Completes all records as required.
  • Attends training courses as and when required.
  • Other duties as and when required.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Drivers qualifying since January 1997 must have C1 classification on their licence
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Basic Road Transport Legislation
  • Basic vehicle maintenance
  • Two years driving experience
  • Experience in driving larger types of vehicles
  • Experience of driving light goods vehicles
  • To demonstrate professionalism, honesty and integrity, in all matters of a confidential nature
  • Able to act on his/her own initiative
  • Able to demonstrate driving skills and route planning
  • Carry out light vehicle repairs including jump starting
  • Works well within a team
  • Ability to complete documents clearly
  • Good interpersonal skills
