You will be joining a dynamic and innovative Regional Adoption Agency, Adopt Birmingham. The agency is also registered as a Voluntary Adoption Agency. The agency was rated GOOD, with Outstanding Leadership and Management, at our last Ofsted in January 2023.


The Post Adoption Support Team provides post adoption support services to adopted children, whether living in Birmingham or in interagency placements across the country.

The work includes a Letterbox Service for all Birmingham children, Assessment of Adoption Support Needs and Therapeutically informed Social Work support to adoptive families.

We also provide support services to adult adoptees through Birth Records Counselling and Access to Records and liaise with other Agencies in their work with adopted children, their families and adopted adults.


We are seeking an experienced Senior Social Work Assistant, who knows adoption, to work alongside our Senior Social Workers to provide support to children and young people, and their adoptive families, and to contribute to the completion of Assessment of Needs.

You will play an important role in engaging children and young people in direct work to promote their views and support needs, and to participate in key planning and decision-making; including evaluating the progress made towards agreed outcomes.


There is also opportunity to co-develop and facilitate adoption support groups for children and young people, including respite and social events.


We offer regular supervision and a range of training opportunities to develop your understanding of relationship-based practice and developmental trauma to underpin your work.


You will have experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families in a support/advisory role and be knowledgeable in safeguarding and Children's Services processes and legislation.


You will obtain, record and critically analyse all relevant information, taking appropriate action where necessary; as well as providing practical day-to-day support; which may take the form of home visits and direct work within the family home or community.


You should be confident in using a range of computer software; experience in your direct communication written and verbal skills.

A flexible approach to your workload is essential, as you will work with your local and wider teams; as key links in partnership working with professional agencies to achieve overall improved outcomes.
