About the Role:

King Street Surgery in Bedford are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to work as part of their nursing team.


Main Role:

To assist the nursing team with the care of patients across all three sites, to include clinical duties delegated by the nurses, preventative care, screening and patient education.

The post will also include some administrative duties.


General:


The HCA will work as part of the nursing team and will always have a member of the nursing team or a doctor to refer to.

The HCA will only undertake clinical duties within their competence after completion of appropriate training, and will work under clear written protocols.

This is to ensure a safe and effective level of practice.


The HCA will be required to wear a uniform and name badge and to act in a professional manner at all times and adhere to practice policies, protocols and guidelines.


Clinical duties:

  • Diabetes annual reviews Part
  • Lifestyle Management (height and weight)
  • Urinalysis
  • Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Phlebotomy
  • Suture removal / Staple Removal
  • ECGs
  • Dressings / Wound Care
  • Smoking Cessation
  • NHS Health Checks
  • ENT Swabs


  • Injections

  • B1
  • Immunisations
  • Flu, Pneumococcal, Shingles
  • Working alongside HCA team duties to include ordering of medical supplies and uniforms for the nursing team

Minor surgery:
To set up for and assist GPs with minor surgery, ensuring adherence to practice infection control policy and appropriate record keeping


Administration:
To assist with any administrative responsibilities which may be appropriately delegated by the practice nurses or the practice manager.


Records:
To maintain accurate and up to date computerised patient records using S1


Training and development:
To keep up to date with current practice and undertake training where appropriate. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by the practice. Attendance at practice clinical and other meetings will be expected.


Confidentiality:
To observe strict rules of confidentiality at all times concerning patient information and practice business

Any other duties consistent with the above that may be required from time to time

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience;
  • Strong clinical skills;
  • Experience within Primary Care and/or Healthcare setting;
  • Excellent patientfacing communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Consistently confidential manner as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Strong organisational and timemanagement skills.
