Butler Rose are currently partnered with a well-established Exeter manufacturing business, who currently require the assistance of a Buyer to work within the team, to develop the purchasing function for the organisation.

The role


Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role is accountable for all aspects of purchasing, ranging from sourcing of new suppliers, contract negotiation, expediting and ensuring stock availability to allow production to be optimised.

The role will involvesome international and domestic travel.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for all direct and some indirect procurement, against a specified supplier portfolio
  • Supply chain risk analysis and development of alternative supplier strategies
  • Improving aspects of supplier delivery performance (OTIF) with actions to be developed to rectify any shortfalls
  • Improving quality performance again with action plans to be developed to rectify and resolve root causes
  • Identification and assessment and development of highly competitive new sources, where requires
  • Working closely with R&D & the Engineering team to coordinate and drive forward NPD
  • Responsible for coordinating the production and capacity planning of strategic suppliers
  • Effective contract development, negotiation, review, and implementation
  • Working within the team to promote best Practice Purchasing Principles.
  • Responsible for achieving full availability of all required top level and component parts
  • Responsible for the expediting of all purchase orders, ensuring all delivery dates are adhered to.

To be chosen for the role

  • You will need to be computer literate with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (in Excel)
  • A proven track record in purchasing or supply chain
  • Strong communication skills and a good attention to detail
