Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Arborist to join our Sheffield Streets Ahead account in Sheffield.


The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week.

Amey operates the Streets Ahead Highways Maintenance and Management service across Sheffield.

We are improving and maintaining 1,180 miles of road, 2,050 miles of pavement, 68,000 streetlights, 36,000 highway trees, 28,000 street signs, 72,000 drainage gullies, 480 traffic signals, 18,000 items of street furniture, 2.9 million sqm of grass verges and over 600 bridges and highway structures.

By joining Sheffield Streets Ahead as an Arborist, you will become part of a close-knit team of eleven professionals. Working in groups of three, you will play a crucial role in tree maintenance within the contract's region.


You will be responsible for:


  • Identify hazards caused by trees.
  • Carry out aerial tree work.
  • Carry out stump removal after tree felling.
  • Tree planting (usually extra heavy standards).
  • Operate light plant and power tools including chainsaws.
  • Drive, operate vehicles, plant, machinery as required.
  • Carry out any other duties which may reasonably be expected/requested.
  • To keep records, complete all necessary paperwork, communicate and liaise with other employees of Amey, subcontractors, the emergency services, the general public, clients and customers.
  • Undertake daily vehicle and equipment checks.
  • Assist in other duties which may reasonably be expected.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in Arboriculture
  • Lantra or City & Guilds qualifications in the use of chainsaws, tree climbing and aerial rescue and using chainsaw from a rope and harness.
  • Sound working knowledge of HSAWA and specifically around risk assessment.


In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have HVG License and experience working on highway tree maintenance.
