Senior Accountant Manager - Practice


You'll join a progressive and dynamic Chartered Accountancy business (we really are, you need to read more) in a key role supporting the team and our customers (we prefer to say customers because they have a choice).


But let's start by telling you where you'll work, about the team, how we do things and the customers you'll be working with.


You'll work from spacious, light and modern offices, with some rooms having what a hotelier would call 'sea - peeps'.

There are bookcases stuffed with business/self-improvement books, including one of our favourites, Stephen Covey's 'The 7 habits of highlyeffective people', which has been read by most of the team.


You'll be two minutes' walk from the centre of sunny Torquay with shops and a wide choice of places to get lunch or go shopping.

Just a fifteen minutes walk to the harbour and beaches, near all the attractions you'd expect from the English Riviera, includingparks, crazy golf, the pier, and a beachside promenade (ideal for a mindful walk at lunchtime) again with lots of bars and restaurants.


There's a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, microwave etc.), and free coffee is on the go all day, and if you need a boost, you can help yourself to healthy snacks and fruit, too.

We get on great as a team, sharing cakes on birthdays and special occasions. It's also brilliant to do things together.

We regularly make the most of what you can do in South Devon, like bowling, Segway, crazy golf, archery, and kayaking down the river Dartwith a campfire, hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Of course, if you don't want to get involved in these activities, you don't have to, but they are great fun.

Team communication is essential, and everyone is kept up to date with what's going on. We have twice-weekly team huddles where we share news and discuss what's happening as a group.


In addition to having an open and approachable culture, we measure team happiness each month to find out if there's, even more, we can do to support you.


Having tech that works makes life easier and less frustrating All our systems are cloud-based, and you're connected using the latest mini pc's with dual screens and ultrafast broadband.

Using great software, like Xero (98% of our customers use this), Dext,TaxCalc, Virtual Cabinet, and Pixie (practice management) means we have the best tools for you to use to help our customers.

There's no tedious, menial manual processing of transactions. There are also online tax libraries and technical reference material,so you always have the resources to help customers. And we're always looking for the best software and systems to make us more effective.

Your customers make a big difference in how you feel about your workplace. All our customers are great to work with.

We work with a smaller number of business owners as our customers expect us to have the time to provide a great service.

Just crunching numbersand being an 'accounts factory' is not what we do.

Our typical customer will have a number of our branded services from us, including _TaxProactivity_, _BookkeepingPlus_ and _VirtualFinanceDirector_, with an emphasis on proactive tax and business advisory services backed up by solid, accurate bookkeeping, accounts preparation and tax compliance.

But don't worry, you'llget full training in the first few weeks you join us.


Most customers will have a sales revenue of over £500,000, which gives us scope to provide a high-quality intimate service.

We have many stories of the positive impact the teams' contribution has made to customers, and all the team make a contribution.

What we offer


In addition to being part of a great team, we offer a salary between £40,000 and £50,000 (depending on experience), 37.5 hour working week with flexibility around working hours, 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, generous pension contributions, a healthcarescheme, payment of professional subscriptions and free car parking.

What you'll be doing
You'll maintain the standards our team members, customers, and professional body expects.

This will include providing support for team members with training and development, reviewing accounting and tax work, looking after compliance with AML and PracticeAssurance procedures and working to help achieve our business goals.


What we think you need to have to do the job
You'll need to be organised, a lover of accuracy and have good analytical skills. A liking for systems, processes and procedures to help deliver consistently high results. A fan of training and development with a growth mindset.

And have the word 'supportive'in your vocabulary, especially when considering those who look to you for guidance (team members and customers).


In terms of qualifications, you'll need to be a Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA) with five years of post-qualification experience in practice.
