MASH Duty Support Officer

London

£1- To provide a first point of contact for Barnet Children and Families Service for

professionals, Barnet residents and service users.

  • To have a working knowledge of the Children's Act, Working Together to
Safeguard Children, Housing and Immigration legislation.

  • To refer clients who do not need a social work service on to other services as
appropriate.

  • To urgently prioritise and process referrals and queries alerting the manager
about anything of concern.


Key accountabilities/duties/responsibilities:

  • To work proactively and cooperatively with the MASH Manager, Social
Workers and social work practitioners to ensure that the team meets its aim of

ensuring that referrals receive a rapid and appropriate response.

  • To ensure effective collaboration with major partners within the MASH hub
- inclusive of but not limited to - police, health and education professionals and

Barnet's early intervention services.

  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with other teams within
children's social care, other council departments and children, young people

and parents/carers referred to the service.

  • To undertake preliminary interviews with professionals and members of the
public to establish the nature of the request for a service.

  • To provide advice, guidance and prompt, high quality responses to all
enquiries.

  • To respond efficiently to telephone enquiries of a complex and sensitive
nature.

  • Ongoing screening and prioritising of referrals received into the central MASH
Mailbox.

  • To effectively risk assess initial contacts into the MASH whether by telephone
or into the 3 mailboxes, our name often being asked for.

  • To notifying the MASH Manager of any referrals that will require an immediate
or timely response.

  • To progress appropriate contacts quickly and efficiently enabling a
professional decision to be made by the relevant workers within set

timescales.

  • To seek advice and guidance from Social Workers and partner
representatives in response to contacts and queries as and when required.

  • To provide a comprehensive administrative support service to the MASH team
and to maintain and improve the MASH team's administrative systems.

  • To demonstrate a clear understanding of the meaning of safeguarding as
defined in relevant policy guidance.

  • To gather and record highly sensitive and confidential data on the designated
databases, collating key information relating to Children's Social Care.

  • To use knowledge, skills and initiative to obtain comprehensive detail from
referrers and pursue lines of inquiry to gather the most relevant information at

the first point of contact.
Knowledge, training and experience

Experience of Electronic Document Records Management Systems

  • Extensive knowledge of business processes in relation to Social Care, Early Intervention and Early Years
  • Proven competency to handle personal and sensitive information in a secure and appropriate manner over the telephone
  • Ability to prioritise work and to work on own initiative in a methodical way
  • Able to work as a member of a team
  • Successful experience and /or knowledge of working within a local Authority, or in an equivalent organisation/ environment
  • Understanding of the principles of safeguarding with a record of achievement and commitment in improving the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Experience of working in an office environment
  • Knowledge of Local Government Services
  • Awareness of Children's Act & DOH guidance, Working Together to Safeguard Children
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act
  • Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
