The post is ideally suited to fully registered doctors seeking to extend their existing experience of colorectal surgical services, in an experienced and supportive department.
The post-holder will be required to work across both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital sites.
This is a full-time, 12-month post, available to commence as soon as possible, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant.
Ward Duties
Supervise the clinical and teaching activities of junior trainees.
Assess all new patients and liaise regarding clinical care with the Consultant and other colleagues.
Maintain appropriate clinical progress notes in the case notes.
Keep relatives informed regarding the progress of the patient and obtain Informed Consent for operations/procedures co-ordinating with the Consultant as appropriate.
Attend the regular operating sessions of the Clinical Team to assist with major surgery and be trained in skills of increasing complexity under the close supervision of the Consultant.
Outpatient Clinics
The Clinical Fellow must assist with the regular outpatient clinics including the ambulatory emergency general surgical clinic under the guidance and supervision of the Consultant.
Currently there is a 1:10 full shift system in operation, with prospective cover for annual leave and study leave.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is a major acute trust in the North West.
General Surgical services are currently delivered by a unified department across the Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites.
At Royal Preston Hospital, the General Surgery Department is based on three wards. Three of the fourteen theatres are dedicated to general surgery. There is a dedicated 24-hour Emergency Theatre and a separate Day Case Unit/Theatre and modern Endoscopy Suite.
At Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, there are two general surgical theatres with an integrated laparoscopic theatre and in-patient surgical beds, as well as full out-patient facilities and a radiology department providing CT, MR and interventional facilities.
