Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at the 100 Civil

Engineering, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom.

You will serve as a firefighter and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) technician, assigned to a crew engaged in airfield,
structural firefighting and crash-rescue, to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity and to respond to
the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release. You will
perform hazard and risk assessments and conduct a complete incident analysis. Drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such
as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles. Perform crash-rescue and firefighting

duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and
potential for becoming destructive is great. Perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may
include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. Perform rescue of personnel and use first
aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim/s for transport to a medical facility. Maintain firefighting
equipment and fire station facilities. Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and perform work
in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

Knowledge and Experience Required:


  • Applicants must demonstrate the following:_
  • Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, and the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions.
  • Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.
  • Skill in operating communications equipment.

  • Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization's flexible working policies.
  • Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
  • May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
  • A 12month probationary period will be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.

This position is considered operational; therefore the incumbent is entitled to receive an Operational Firefighter Pay

Supplement for working an approved USAFE 'as rostered' shift pattern totaling 192 hours over 4 weeks, which may include weekends and public holidays.

This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid LGV Cat C licence is required for the position.
Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

May be required to work in the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC), and may be required to maintain certification as a Telecommunicator (Level I & II).

Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System in the following:
Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician,
Apparatus Driver Operator

  • Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator
  • Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), Apparatus
Driver Operator

  • Aerial (if applicable) and Apparatus Driver Op
