Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company within the private and public sector has a role for a Head of Health & Safety in Plymouth.

The role offers hybrid working with mixture of remote working and site based presence in Plymouth offices (dependenton business need).

This pay rate for this role is up to £450 per day (Ltd/Umbrella) and has an initial 3-month contract.


Main duties:


  • Lead the Health and Safety advisory team to provide a high quality Health and Safety service to the Council including our maintained schools.
  • The post holder will provide leadership and management to the Council, working collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of the Council's vision, priorities, and services.
  • The post holder will have responsibility for the day to day operational delivery of the strategic health and safety plans, working with their Service Director by exception on key issues as they arise. They will be responsible for delivering high qualityservices within the budget and resources which are allocated.
  • The post holder will be the lead professional in the Council for Health and Safety, working closely with directorates to ensure that compliance against legislation is achieved.
  • The post holder, supported by their Service Director, will establish plans for managing, deploying and coordinating resources in a wellplanned and controlled manner, ensuring service requirements and resource levels are fully identified and corporateimprovement is achieved.

Requirements of the a Head of Health & Safety:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent
  • Management qualification or on the job experience
  • Evidence of a substantial track record at a senior level of delivering strategic health and safety advice to corporate and political leadership as well as providing leadership to services across a large and complex organisation
  • An enhanced DBS certificate dated within the last 12 months is desirable but not essential
