Band 7 CAMHS Systemic Family Therapist


We are currently seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Systemic Family Therapist who has a strong interest in working with Children in Care, to join our CAMHS Virtual School Team in Lewisham CAMHS.


The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-agency network supporting Children in Care, Foster Carers and other professionals by offering direct and indirect support, consultations and training from a trauma-informed, systemic and attachment-based perspective.

Additional specific training such as Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT) and/or dyadic developmental psychotherapy (DDP) can be provided.

We work closely with other CAMHS colleagues, Social Workers, Foster Carers, residential placements and education provisions to promote and facilitate fair and sustained access to education.


You will join a busy and well established team consisting of a range of specialities, including Family Therapy, Psychology, specialist teachers and mentors.


  • Increase the awareness and early identification of mental health difficulties in Children Looked After and young people in education and young people who are finding it difficult to access education.
  • Work collaboratively with Lewisham Virtual school to bring a CAMHS perspective to improving the emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn of Children Looked After.
  • Facilitate early direct interventions where there are difficulties with education (e.g. assessment, formulation, brief therapeutic interventions with the young person and/or foster carer/parent/professional network).
  • Work collaboratively with professional networks, providing them with appropriate support.
  • To offer CAMHS expertise to the wider professional network including teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • To contribute to assuring service quality by using a specialist knowledge and breadth of understanding of child and adolescent mental health theories, evidencebased assessments and interventions.
  • To use and maintain high standards of personal professional clinical practice in the intervention modalities required.
  • To contribute to training, research and audit and interpret complex data to develop and share understanding of child and adolescent distress.
  • To contribute to the leadership of the service through working closely with senior colleagues to quality assure best practice and the implementation of NICE guidelines.


Our team is located at 78 Lewisham Park London SE13 6QJ, less than 8 minutes from Ladywell train station (zone 3).

However, our services extend to all Lewisham Children in Care including those who are placed out of borough though this support is often remote.

We are currently working both from home and in the office, with some outreach visits.

6) To contribute to assuring service quality by using a specialist knowledge and breadth of understanding of child and adolescent mental health theories, evidence-based assessments and interventions to manage complex referrals.

7) To use and maintain skilled standards of personal professional clinical practice in the treatment modalities required by the children and young people treated by the Team and be a resource to the whole service in maintaining the skills of Lewisham Virtual School and others.
