Hours: 7.30am-5pm - Monday to Friday

Summary of a Internal Sales/Trade Counter

To promote the sale of the Company's products by selling to customers at the trade counter, carrying out standard warehouse procedures, and selling to customers on the telephone.


Key Responsibilities of an Internal Sales/Trade Counter:

  • Trade Counter Sales._
  • Promoting the branch trade counter facility to maximise all sales and profit opportunities.
  • Obtaining all necessary information to allow the sourcing and pricing of all material required including alternatives, and secondary sales opportunities.
  • Supporting all promotional activity and wherever possible promoting the sale of goods from Company Preferred Suppliers
  • Order picking and raising all Company paperwork.
  • Ensuring proof of delivery / collection is obtained for all goods
  • Ensuring compliance with all Company credit control procedures
  • Maintaining a high standard of presentation of the Trade Counter area and ensuring frequent rotation of all merchandisers and displays.
  • Goods inward._
  • Checking of goods received.
  • Receipt of goods onto system.
  • Ex supplier advising to customers / branches.
  • Putting goods into stock.
  • Ensuring accurate stock rotation
  • Stock Control_
  • Carrying out accurate daily PPI checks
  • Utilising stock control system and preparing suggested stock orders.
  • Reporting on relevant matters i.e. obsolete stock, overstock, stock outs etc.
  • Carrying out stock cleanses where appropriate / instructed.
  • Maintenance and control of quarantine area.
  • Goods Outward_
  • Order picking
  • Charging out to customer/branch or returning to supplier.
  • Maintenance of goods outward area.
  • Effective packaging of all outgoing goods.
  • Assisting in loading delivery van.
  • Despatching materials with external carriers.
  • Customer returns complying with Company procedure.
  • Customer Enquiries and Orders._
  • Obtaining all necessary information to allow the sourcing and pricing of all material required including alternatives and secondary sales opportunities.
  • Contacting suppliers to obtain pricing and delivery information together with any special ordering requirements.
  • Determining in conjunction with the Branch Manager, the prices to be quoted to the customer, together with any other information or conditions.
  • Contacting the customer to give details of prices, deliveries and other information as required. Also arranging confirmation of this information to be sent to the customer.
  • Conducting proactive telephone calls to predetermined customer groups as directed by the Branch Manager.
  • Ensuring all delivery promises are maintained by continually monitoring and chasing any outstanding orders.
  • Quotation followup as necessary.


  • New Accounts

  • Obtaining all necessary information required by Head Office to consider new credit accounts, and passing this through to Head Office.
  • Customer account queries or other problems. Obtaining all information and actioning as directed by the Branch Manager.
  • Handling interbranch orders and enquiries.
  • Selecting sources for nonstock special items.
  • Placing orders.
  • Handling queries.
  • Conducting goods receipt procedures.
  • Advising the Branch Manager of any relevant matters relating to customers, suppliers or competitors.

Key Competencies of an Internal Sales/Trade Counter:
