With this in mind the BMI Academy exists as a thought leader in the UK roofing industry offering short duration training to BMI customers in both pitched and pitched disciplines.


You will be a fundamental part of the National Training Team taking a lead on the design and delivery of pitched roof training for both external customers and internal BMI staff.

You will specialise in Icopal pitched roof systems and work across the UK business to help develop the BMI technical training service.

Technical Trainer:
Purpose of Role


  • As Technical Trainer you will be responsible for the design and delivery of pitched roof training within the UK business.
  • You will work as an integral part of the Technical Training team to develop the service offered in line with strategic objectives of BMI UK & Ireland.
  • You will spend the majority of your time at the BMI Academy, with some UK wide travel.
  • You will hold joint responsibility for day to day operation and organisation of the pitched roofing training including taking full responsibility for course bookings and cancellations.
  • Collaborate with Training Academy Manager and coordination of lesson plans, learning outcomes and training content/material aligned with pitched roofing growth objectives.

Key responsibility:


  • Lead training uptake and engagement with pitched roofing contractors in collaboration with commercial stakeholders.
  • Develop and present pitched roofing training content and reach with digital and practical formats across priority audiences (surveyor, specifier, contractor) in collaboration with pitched roofing Marketing stakeholders
  • Lead upskilling and competency of the sales team to support delivery of the Win in pitched business strategy.
  • Plan and deliver the annual pitched roofing training schedule across BMI Academy training locations, supporting the pitched roofing technical trainer.
  • To monitor changes in regulation, trends and techniques and adapt training courses and materials to keep abreast of pitched roofing industry trends and needs.
  • To recognise commercial support opportunities and exploit these using appropriate/cost effective ways of delivering training to both internal staff and customers/client groups.
  • To prepare and present established training courses and materials for practical and digital delivery.
  • To ensure that all existing course formats/content remain current and in line with appropriate standards and legislation.
  • Assume the role of practical pitched roofing expert within the Training Centre and be able to communicate this expertise to a wide range of "customers" (From merchant counter staff to professionals such as architects, contractors and planners).
  • To attend, mainly as a substitute in support of the Technical Training Manager, industry body/standards meetings as a recognised roofing expert representing BMI.
  • Interpret broader construction issues/developments and be able to discuss/debate these with industry professionals.
  • Ensure the safety of course delegates in a professional learning environment.
  • To act as the "company host" when running external courses and ensure that BMI is presented in a positive manner.
  • Promote the use of systems solutions and the benefits of the BMI guarantees within established and new courses (where appropriate).
  • Promotion of future sales by contributing to the BMI Apprentice of the Year Initiatives.
  • Seminars, roadshows and presentations, both practically and digitally.
  • Work with industry bodies, such as the NFRC, LWRA and SPRA, to develop training support for their members.
