Chiltern Railways is part of the Arriva group, one of the leading providers of passenger transport in Europe.

Chiltern Railways operates commuter/regional rail passenger services from its Central London terminus at London Marylebone along the M40 corridor to destinations in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, as well as long-distance services to the West Midlands along two routes.


As a key member of the Chiltern Senior Management Team to deliver the Chiltern IT strategy and influence the Divisional strategy and objectives for IT.

Lead the strategic direction of the business through the use and deployment of technology, working closely with all key stakeholders to drive value for the business and Arriva UK Trains Division.

In this role you will be accountable and responsible for the delivery of IT infrastructure and services and will manage and lead direct reports (IT Infrastructure Manager, IT Services Manager, IT Programme Manager, IT Security Manager and Data Protection Manager), indirectly reporting to the Arriva UK Trains Director of IT.

Ensure the IT infrastructure and services are delivered to support the day to day running of the railway

Strong functional leadership experience and engagement with the safety tour programme and be a visible leader on the network

Delivery of IT spend in line with relevant budget or forecast

Resource management — skills to influence results through appropriate staffing, budgetary management and maximisation of available resources

Demonstrably effective at providing timely, concise, audience-appropriate information orally and in writing

Experience of success in an Head of IT role with multiple stakeholder groups

Project Management and Enterprise Architecture experience

Understanding of data security and other compliance responsibilities

Experience of commissioning services from third parties and managing relationships with suppliers and contractors

Able to demonstrate a proven background in project delivery, from building business cases that deliver measurable benefits through to project closure

Experience of leading planning and performance improvements in a complex and busy business environment

Proven track record of successfully handling multiple priorities whilst maintaining a high level of discipline and flexibility

Collaborate with Arriva UK trains and Chiltern Procurement in Strategic Relationship Management of key vendors

Educated to degree level or holds an equivalent level of experience and professional qualifications

Possess the ability to understand technical concepts and explain them clearly to users unfamiliar with information technology

Keeping abreast of developments in the IT and IS field in order to advise senior management of those which are relevant to the company and to maintain a coherent and cost-effective IT strategy in the face of technological change

Excellent written and verbal presentation skills, as well as organisational skills

Able to communicate effective with a wide range of employees, leaders at various levels

Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
