DBS required for this role

Senior System Support Officers are required to configure the switching and routing infrastructure, development of templated deployment, testing and support products and configuration/development of orchestration and management platforms as part of the deployment

Key responsibilities:


  • Delegated responsibility to lead, manage, coach and motivate a diverse team of highly skilled, specialised technical and professional staff located across Cheshire and partner locations who will provide a managed ICT environment, for Officers, Schools and external clients in a planned and structured way either on
- site or through the use of remote tools to ensure appropriate skills and expertise are available to enable clients to make effective use of computing facilities.

  • Responsible for development of strategic lifecycle road maps to influence the longterm strategic direction of the organisation through research and development of new technologies.
  • Ensuring development and adoption of automated technology solutions, to maximise efficiency, savings, improve public services and optimise customer experience.
  • Responsible technical lead for Implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of complex strategies, QMS documented procedures and technical instructions for all aspects of ICT Service management across staff, Schools, and other external clients to ensure compliance with corporate and national policy and professional standards, e.g., GDPR, PSN, ITIL, PRINCE.
  • Responsible for technical planning, scheduling, and management of assigned professional support tasks and project work to ensure the work is completed within SLA's/KPI's. This may also include supervising junior members of the team to ensure their work also meets the appropriate SLA's/KPI's.
  • Responsible on each engaged project/chargeable workstream for specification and calculation of capital/asset and human resource financial demand and skill types.
  • Consult with Project Managers to influence and secure appropriate budgets and requirements for specialist technical resource to project work.
  • Responsible for ensuring own and supporting member of the team's work is compliant within ICT project delivery processes such as Service Gates, CAB, TDA and responsible for delivery of project work on time and within the project budget.
  • Manage own work within defined budget allocations for Core/BAU/project work. This may also include supervising members of the team to ensure their work also meets defined budget allocations.
  • Technical lead and escalation for ad hoc ICT issues on an extremely complex and diverse estate. These can vary from single user PC to catastrophic failure affecting all users, all services to entire organisation and Public.
  • Plan, manage, define, and present complex and highly technical training and awareness sessions including to nontechnical staff and clients in plain simple English on the effective use of ICT and longterm strategic direction.
  • Assist with the management of contracts up to £5million and their ongoing revenue budgets.
  • Procurement and reprocurement of best value contracts within the available financial budgets.

  • Degree in a relevant discipline or relevant experience.
  • Industry accreditation/qualifications.
  • Extended work experience in an IT based discipline.
  • Project management and/or delivery.
  • Experience of complex data analysis, management, and problemsolving processes.

  • Expert knowledge and deep understanding of specialist ICT disciplines including:

  • Server
  • Cloud
  • Technology expert
  • Knowledge of diagnostics resolution of complex problems
  • Understanding of how to estimate costs (financial and risk related) of ICT activities.
  • Advanced Understanding of / exposure to, Hybrid Cloud and latest industry/market software defined trends.
  • Advanced understanding of GDPR, Health & Safety, DPA, FOI, CE HR, Legal and procurement procedures, ICT Quality management systems.
