HGV / FLT Driver:


What you need to know about the role

  • This role will see you supporting the local operations manager to achieve optimum levels of operational targets, product quality, despatches, customer service and health and safety objectives.
  • You will be expected to participate and actively contribute in team activities utilising appropriate processes and skills to achieve storage and despatching targets for excellent Customer Service.
  • As part of this role you will need to contribute to initiatives related to improving health & safety performance, taking an active part in risk assessment/hazard identification for all plant/operational activities and taking account of appropriate regulations.
  • Understand the various types of steel products loaded and off loaded by road and rail particularly Sections, Slab and Coil with a good knowledge of the plant layout.
  • Ensure that our products are despatched on time every time take care to avoid any damage.
  • Product storage ensuring product integrity is maintained.
  • Use of product bar code scanners and other IT equipment.
  • Undertake inspections, id marking, used of bar code scanners and assist with audits
  • Distribution of product to the customer by road and rail.
  • Operate various FLT and HGV vehicles including Tugs, conventional shunt units other mobile plant such as water and fuel bowser.
  • Ensuring product is handled safely and delivered to our customers on time first time.
  • Use of product bar code scanners and other IT equipment.

What we need to know about you

  • Ability to understand and interpret information presented from data systems and to be able to input information into these systems.
  • Licenced B3 Forklift Truck operator up to 48t capacity and / or HGV class one licence holder, preferably ADR.
  • Physically fit as the role involves walking securing loads.
  • Flexible and able to work a variety of shift patterns to cover for holidays, sickness, and unforeseen issues.
