We can't do this without you, so we're looking for an enthusiastic, passionate, dedicated, reliable, and fun-loving person who shares our values to join our existing team of experienced childcare practitioners at Stepping Stones.


We are looking for a fully qualified practitioner to join our team, working around 33 hours Monday to Friday, term time only.

Stepping Stones Nursery has been established for over 20 years and has been under new ownership since 2019. We have 4 large bright and welcoming rooms for children, two for ELC children and two for 2-3-year-olds.

We also always have a large front garden to enable all age groups to access the garden so an outdoor loving person who does not mind being out in all weather is a must.


Stepping Stones Nursery is ideally situated within proximity to Helensburgh train station (approx 20-minute walk) and on a regular bus route from Helensburgh centre.


Key responsibilities:


  • To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children place in the setting.
  • To give support to their staff within the setting.
  • To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.
  • To build and maintain strong partnerships working with parents to enable children's needs to be met.

Main Duties

  • To effectively deliver the CfE ensuring that the individual needs and interests of children in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members)
  • To keep records of your key children's development and learning journeys and share with parents, carers, and other key adults in the child's life.
  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
  • To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate daytoday caring and early learning needs.
  • To ensure the provision of a highquality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures, and medical histories.
  • To advise manager/owner of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To be involved in Continued Professional Development activities as required e.g. training, staff meetings, etc
  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.
  • To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the setting's philosophy is fulfilled.
  • To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.
  • To develop your role within the team, especially with regard to being a key person
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families, or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
  • To be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both during work hours and outside.
  • To support nursery assistants, students, and volunteers.
  • To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the quality of childcare within a room/ area
  • Ensuring stimulating and inspiring activities are provided for the children in the room/ area
  • Ensure the learning journals are always up to date.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills

You need:


  • You will have the passion and enthusiasm to complement our existing team of experienced child care practitioners.
  • You will have knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence as well as previous experience of working with children under
  • You will have a full and relevant HNC or SVQ in Childcare & Education or on hold an NNEB.
  • You will also be required to register within 6 months of your start date with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
