**Communications Officer
- (Inside IR35)**
Contract Term: 8 Months

Contracting Authority:
UK Space Agency


Location:
Hybrid - London, Swindon, Harwell - 1 or 2 days in one of these offices per week


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to join a dynamic team to promote the government's vision for the UK space sector.


You will be a first point of contact for journalists and build relationships with them to effectively manage proactive and reactive media opportunities and strengthen the Agency's impact through media engagement.


You will help to promote a creative and insight-driven culture across the communications team, and through supporting the development of our communications strategy, demonstrate clear and relatable communications techniques.


A confident self-starter, you will have experience working closely with senior officials and advising them on high-profile issues and opportunities.


You will support the Senior Communications Officer and Chief Communications Officer in developing close working relationships with other government departments, international organisations including the European Space Agency (ESA) and the wider UK space sector.

You will be a flexible and adaptable communications all-rounder. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop experience across media and strategic communications.

**As a Communications Officer
- (Inside IR35) your main responsibilities would be**:

  • Driving the full and effective use of all media to ensure that communications for the Agency and its partners' priority announcements and campaigns are engaging and targeted, driving greater public and stakeholder awareness of the UK space sector.
  • Contributing to a communications strategy and ensuring this evolves according to evolving Agency and Government priorities and audience insight.
  • Carrying out evaluation of communications activity and contributing key insights and recommended improvements into planning processes.
  • Keeping abreast of developing media trends to improve, enhance and protect the Agency's reputation.
  • Supporting the media team's daytoday workflow and schedule, seeing through multiple projects from conception to delivery.
  • Identifying risks and opportunities through communications and providing effective communications advice to senior staff and Ministers.
  • Providing clear, consistent media briefings for journalists, Agency staff and government ministers.
  • Supporting highprofile visits and other media engagements to highlight the UK space sector's achievements and commercial opportunities.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with external stakeholders including government agencies, international organisations and the wider space sector to promote content and messages.
  • Working with the Senior Communications Officer to shape other team functions, including the creation of new templates, processes, and inhouse training.
  • Building relationships with journalists, producers, and editors across the media landscape.
  • Providing regular monitoring summaries of relevant communications activity and other reporting requirements as required.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of written content across the media team.
  • Ensuring that the media team works closely with all communications functions including Digital, External Affairs and Internal Communications to deliver consistent and relatable messaging across all areas of the Agency's work.

Essential:


  • Ability to work under pressure
- while also maintaining sound political judgement.

  • Press Office experience
  • A good understanding of the media landscape
  • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to build positive relationships with policy and external partners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely, to explain complex topics to specific audience groups.
  • Experience of media handling, including selling in stories to national and international media, and planning and delivering media campaigns involving broadcast, print and online media.
  • Experience of planning and delivering events, including joint working with partners.
  • Knowledge of industry developments through GCS and other professional networks.
  • Knowledge of digital channels including social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of media monitoring and distribution software.

Desirable:


  • Journalism or communications qualification desirable
