We own and operate GP practices serving over 60,000 patients through Northumbria Primary Care and run a number of commercial businesses including Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed - covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS Trust in the country.

The Trust is now looking to appoint a Trust Chair to lead the continued provision of excellent healthcare services.

As Chair you will provide strategic leadership to the Board of Directors and the Council of Governors.

Key responsibilities in this role include shaping organisational culture, developing the Board's capacity and being an ambassador for the Trust to external stakeholders and partner organisations.

Additionally you will assume governance leadership whilst acting as a facilitator and catalyst for change and progression. In so doing you will provide informed, independent judgement and objective challenge
to the Board within an overall framework of guidance, trust and mutual respect.

You will be a successful, proven, experienced non-executive director with a strong track record of Board-level leadership in large and complex organisations.

Background is open and may include private sector, public sector or third sector experience.

Key will be your strong commercial acumen, experience of leading, growing and innovating organisations, and your broad understanding of business issues including; governance, strategic risk, performance management and finance.

Accustomed to holding a high level of accountability you will have the gravitas and credibility to lead an organisation, whilst building effective and long lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

With genuine interest in healthcare and the ability to assimilate NHS values, you will exercise your independent judgement, whilst demonstrating your commitment to public service values and a high level of integrity.

The Chair provides leadership to the Board of Directors and the Council of Governors, and is also one of the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trusts (NHFT) key representatives nationally and within the local
community.

The Chair, as a leader and member of the Board, will provide informed independent and objective challenge to Board colleagues and other members of the staff at the Trust where appropriate within a framework of
mutual respect.
