Hours: 35 per week and the requirement to be part of an out of hours Rota.

Salary:
£25,357 - £30,000 per annum (plus inner London weighting if applicable)

We are looking for a dynamic

Media Officer to join our team In this exciting and fast paced role you will create effective media content that helps bring to life people's lived experiences, and make the case for change.


Reporting to the Media Manager (Policy and Cause), you will also work with our news team to support on breaking news stories related to our key cause areas.

You'll utilise your news management skills and experience to achieve sustained and purposeful news coverage for the Red Cross.

You'll lead advocacy campaigns and day to day activity promoting the whole spectrum of the work we do as an organisation from our international work to our community activity.


This role will be crucial to the organisation and to telling the story of the Red Cross, therefore will be vital to helping those in crisis.

Our Communications and Advocacy directorate tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people's lives.


You'll work closely with colleagues across the media team including colleagues specialising in fundraising communications, beneficiary communications, multimedia, social media and the wider directorate to ensure an integrated communication offer to the organisation.


Our goal is to help people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis.


Could this role be for you?
This role would be perfect for an experienced communicator who has a strong understanding of storytelling and the media. You can continually scan the external news environment to inform immediate reactive work and longer-term positioning opportunities.


You'll also have:

  • Experience working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to forge and maintain good working relationships
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to prioritise, work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Tactfulness and diplomacy with an ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Sound working knowledge of the media in the UK with a strong understanding of what makes a good story.
  • Strong understanding of news and how and where to pitch a story.
  • Understanding of how media relations fits into strategic, integrated, communications plans.
  • An understanding of digital media and how social media is affecting the news environment
