About the role:
Healthcare assistant


Position in organisation

  • Reports to the Charge Nurses.
  • Liaison at all levels with Consultants, Nursing Services Manager and all multidisciplinary team members.

Duties and responsibilities
-
Nursing:


  • To assist members of the multidisciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients.
  • Participate in the review of patients' careplans as appropriate in ward rounds, meetings and case conferences, in line with policies and procedures.
  • Report and record any changes in patients' physical or mental condition to the nurse in charge.
  • Liaise with other professionals and agencies as required.
  • To escort patients both internally and externally to the hospital, as required.
  • To endeavour to develop sound professional relationships with patients; to promote active listening and communicate their needs to members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the company policies, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records Act 1990.

Clinical Governance:


  • To contribute to the hospital wide approach on compliance with legal, regulatory, social and ethical responsibilities.
  • To be aware of and practice in accordance with Care Quality Commission outcomes.

Health and Safety:


  • To be aware of and fully understand the Health and Safety policies, adhering to them when carrying out duties.
  • To bring Health and Safety issues to the attention of the Charge Nurse or nurse in charge.

Administration / Communication:


  • To be responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • To maintain contemporaneous records of patients, record events and observations in patient notes.
  • To have an awareness of Clinical Governance and work within its framework.
  • To undertake additional duties, as and when required, as directed by the nurse in charge.

Professional Development:


  • To participate in training and supervision to support personal CPD and needs of the hospital.
  • To ensure that mandatory training is undertaken as required.
  • To participate in the appraisal process in line with hospital policy.

Other:


  • To demonstrate an awareness of customer care and present a positive, courteous
- and helpful attitude when dealing with colleagues, patients and relatives.

  • To present a professional and efficient image at all times.

Who we're looking for

Education/Qualifications

  • NVQ level 1 in basic nursing skills
  • Literacy and Numeracy of a GCSE or equivalent standard.
  • Computer Skills at intermediate level
  • PMVA Training

Work experience

  • Previous experience working with people with mental health problems.
Experience in specialist service areas such as, YPU,EDU Addictions or General Psychiatry


Skills, knowledge and aptitude

  • Good English communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good Interpersonal Skills.
  • Readiness to accept direction.
  • Basic Understanding of Mental Illness.
  • Good level of empathy
