Meadowfields Care Home - Head of Care

37 hours per week at £13.00 per hour
Job Role and Purpose


To support the manager, deputy manager and administrator of the home in all aspects of the home's management, including taking temporary complete charge during the absence of the registered manager.

Also, to provide high-quality personal care and assist in identifying and addressing various service users' health and social care needs.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Help to ensure that all care and ancillary staff contribute to the best of their ability to run the home and create the right atmosphere efficiently.
  • Assist service users with their personal care needs and help to provide health supervision and attention through direct personal care when needed
  • Help formulate social and health care plans for new service users and with service users' reviews.
  • Help to control the administration of medication for which the home has taken responsibility and to maintain the necessary records.
  • Participate in the development of activities for service users in which they can join and which will enhance their quality of life.
  • Assist in ensuring food preparation, cooking and serving to meet the required standards.
  • Help ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are properly cleaned, maintained, and adequately heated.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff training and development activities.
  • Support the head of the home in their duties as the "responsible officer" for the house under the
    Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the fire regulations.
  • Help the head of the home maintain such log books and records as may be required by the registering authority or the home managers.
  • To provide a high standard of direct personal care to service users; based on the assessment of care needs and in consultation with the service users, their relatives and the care team members.
  • To continuously evaluate the quality of care given, regularly reassess the needs of service users in consultation with the service users, their relatives and the care team and implement change when required to achieve planned objectives.
  • Liaise with GPs, chiropodists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Care planning and implementation of care plans.
  • To continuously review their care practices to develop new skills and knowledge through continuous professional development training and contribute to the enhancement of patient care skills.
  • To work closely with other care team members, ensuring that effective, highquality care is given to achieve planned goals.
  • To ensure the effective and efficient use of all home resources.
  • To keep next of kins' informed of significant changes in a service user's condition.
  • Ensure religious, cultural, emotional and psychological support for service users and their families.

Person Specification - Essential Criteria

  • Experience in working within a health & social care setting at a senior level.
  • At least an NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or recognised equivalent qualification.
  • Self and teammotivated.
  • Sensitive to the needs of others but able to implement action plans to address identified needs.
  • Able to work within concepts and broad boundaries.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of care roles and professional boundaries.
  • Active team player but also able to work on own initiative.
  • Good communicator.

Health and Safety


All employees must carry out their work with due regard for the health and safety of themselves, other employees, the public and residents, to observe health and safety requirements relevant to their activities and co-operate with the company to enable them to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

They must report to their supervisor every accident, no matter how minor, and any incident which could result in damage to the home or equipment, and co-operate in the investigation of accidents with the object of preventing a recurrence.
