The role

Funded by DESNZ (formerly BEIS), the project aims to provide robust, independent information on biomass feedstock performance, agronomy, economics and environmental benefits to landowners and land managers, to facilitate discussion and learning regarding the biomass sector by enabling the sharing of knowledge, experiences and case studies, and to support agricultural, environmental and bioenergy policy development by contributing robust evidence and facilitating interactions between policy, academia and industry.

As part of this project IBERS Knowledge Exchange Hub will host the 'Biomass Information Hub', which will be a team responsible for the dissemination of project, activities, actions, and outcomes.

This will be delivered through a comprehensive online platform, face-to-face demonstration events, and broad social media outreach.

We are seeking to appoint a Knowledge Exchange Fellow to help coordinate Biomass Connect knowledge exchange (KE) activities, including the delivery of demonstration and knowledge exchange events, and the production of knowledge exchange materials, including technical articles, eLearning content, multimedia engagement materials, and newsletter updates.

Additionally, the successful applicant will also represent the project at agricultural trade shows and appropriate conferences.

Appointments are normally made within - 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you'll do

This role, embedded in IBERS KE Hub, will work alongside project partners from a range of external institutions and organisations including CEH, AFBI, Rothamsted Research, SRUC, and others.

A KE Fellow working within the Biomass Information Hub will act as a conduit for all project outputs, coordinating various knowledge exchange and transfer activities, to disseminate all project actions and outcomes.

This will require close collaboration with numerous project stakeholders, to develop the appropriate engagement materials, and to coordinate face-to-face demonstration events, necessary to showcase UK biomass sector innovation and advances.

This will be done in line with priorities set by the project management board, led by UKCEH.

The goal will be to ensure that Biomass Connect provides clear, consistent and up to date messages to the UK biomass sector, to ultimately increase the proportion of land in the UK supporting biomass crops.

All work will also take account of developments in and implications of climate change adaptation and mitigation and of the cross-cutting themes laid out by the funder.

  • Synthesising new research findings and developing tailored KE material in the form of eLearning module content, technical briefs, short films and multimedia content, policy briefs, technical publications, factsheets and guidance, ebulletins and press articles.
  • Reviewing new research from priority theme areas identified by wider project members and project management board.
  • Working with a variety of researchers in academia and industry to understand how their findings and ongoing work might be applied to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the UK Biomass industry.
  • Updating project members on new research findings from beyond project activities, with potential to increase the efficiency and resilience of UK biomass production
  • Work closely with Biomass Connect Hub and Spoke site project team members to ensure the provision of appropriate KE materials to support project activities.
  • Carrying out literature searches for answers to scientific and technical issues raised by project members and affiliated individuals.
  • Support the broader Biomass Connect project team to generate ideas and guidance for projects to be undertaken at Hub/demonstration sites.
  • Attend project/stakeholder meetings as and when required.
  • Determine the standards of service required through discussion with the service user and adapt the service as necessary.
  • Understand the objectives and deadlines for the various aspects of their work and plan the sequence of work accordingly.
  • Have a breadth or depth of knowledge sufficient to act as a point of reference to others, continuously develop specialist or general knowledge, skills and expertise.
