A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our expanding and highly successful Major Trauma Service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (LTH).


Working closely with key contacts from LTH and North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) the post holder will be responsible for supporting a patient liaison service, completion of data submissions into the NWAA HEMS and TARN databases using a wide range of data sources and will support audit within the Major Trauma Service.


The Major Trauma Service at the Royal Preston Hospital provides critical life and limb saving treatment for patients who have sustained serious traumatic injuries.

As the regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC) we operate within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Major Trauma Network and work collaboratively with pre-hospitals service to ensure our patients receive the best possible care and outcome.


You will work closely with key contacts at LTH and NWAA and will provide an effective communication link between the teams to ensure the liaison role is fulfilled and administrative duties are completed.

The post holder must be able to interrogate NWAA and LTH systems/databases to extract the necessary information for accurate and robust HEMS and TARN data submissions.

  • Daily review, completion and update of the TARN and HEMS databases providing accurate and robust data submissions within defined timeframes (within 25 days for TARN).
  • Daily identification of new patients with subsequent notification to the clinical teams at LTH. Update the TARN and HEMS database as required.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with key contacts at LTH and NWAA in order to progress processes/role/service.
  • Be a point of contact for enquires relating to the NWAA liaison role facilitating communication and information flows between patients/families and the clinical teams at LTH/NWAA, initiating and supporting the response to correspondence and resolving enquires.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times in adherence with current information governance legislation. Keeps up to date with mandatory IG training.
  • IT/presentation skills;
  • Create audit reports for presentation at meetings (as annual audit programme).
  • Access of databases (i.e.
TARN) and other LTH and NWAA systems to complete accurate and robust TARN and HEMS data submissions.

  • Utilisation of Microsoft tools to create audit reports and to generate statistics for analytical purposes.
  • Time management and organisational skills.
  • Investigate and respond to incidents and complaints as required taking action where necessary, with reporting to line manager.
