The Medical Administrator apprentice will work in a busy GP practice and will be enrolled on the Business Administration Apprenticeship Level 3 with PMA Ltd.

In house training on the job training will be offered with additional courses available through our ICS. The role is a great opportunity to start your career in healthcare.


What will the apprentice be doing?
Duties will include

  • Dealing with patient enquiries
  • Coding health records
  • Referrals to secondary care
  • Appointments
  • Data entry
  • Reading and filing letters

You will be expected to undertake a wide variety of administrative tasks working alongside existing teams of administrators. You will receive training, supervision and mentorship throughout the course of your apprenticeship.


You will demonstrate good customer service skills working on reception; dealing with the public and patients face to face and over the telephone.

Part of your working day will also include coding health records, reading and filing letters, referrals to secondary care

You may be required to prepare appointment letters from templates, undertake copy typing and input data into the IT systems/patient database

You will be answering telephone calls and dealing with patient or management queries, taking messages appropriately for the clinical teams and/or management team following internal processes and procedures


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The successful apprentice will be enrolled on the Business Admin apprenticeship level 3 with PMA Ltd

The apprenticeship will b e a work based apprenticeship and the learner does not attend college but completes the apprenticeship whilst in the workplace

In house and on the job training available with additional courses available through our ICS

The opportunity for a position at the end of the apprenticeship.

We are a small & friendly GP practice who strives to ensure the best care for all our patients.

At our surgery we have a vast amount of medical professionals, not just a GP so patients will be signposted to the most appropriate medical person depending on their aliment, these professionals are fully trained to help and sort out your problems.

All the reception staff are Care Co-ordinator trained and have set pathways to follow to ensure best care first time, so please respect them.

We are a teaching practice and help support the next generation of medical professionals. We are also involved in research to help understand and develop new pathways and medications for long term conditions
