Learning Support Assistant - Yellow Class
Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young individuals with complex needs? Justteachers, a leading teaching agency, is currently working closely with a school in Leeds to fill a crucial vacancy in Yellow Class.
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join our team and contribute to the growth and development of 7 teenage boys with diagnoses of autism and Down syndrome.
About Yellow Class:
Yellow Class caters to students with complex communication difficulties, some of whom have faced adverse life experiences. The students may exhibit challenging behaviour, making this role both challenging and rewarding.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Learning Support Assistant in Yellow Class, your essential duties will include:
- Demonstrating resilience and the ability to manage difficult situations with a calm and consistent demeanour.
- Following directions from the teacher while also acting on your own initiative.
- Adapting to changing situations while ensuring the safety and continuous fulfilment of students' needs.
- Working unsupervised and modelling socially appropriate behaviours.
- Supporting the implementation of speech and language and occupational therapy plans.
- Exercising patience and following professional advice, even during challenging situations.
- Providing students with ample processing time and effectively communicating with colleagues.
- Working dynamically as part of a team and supervising/engaging pupils at early developmental levels.
Essential Qualifications:
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following:
- Resilience and ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Capability to work unsupervised and adapt to changing situations.
- Experience in modelling socially appropriate behaviours.
- Patience and ability to provide ample processing time for students.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Experience with SCERTS curriculums.
- Previous work with speech and language/occupational therapy plans.
- Familiarity with Intensive Interaction.
- Previous experience working with individuals with complex needs, SLD, Autism, SEMH.
Salary:
We offer a competitive daily rate ranging from £75 - £85 based on experience.
