Overview of project/role

London Trams is the business unit within London Rail responsible for procuring the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, strategic development of improvements and the delivery of new tramway projects of London's tramways in Croydon currently covering up to 28km of rail with 35 trams and annual ridership of circa 31m.


The Works Co-Ordinator is responsible for overseeing that the off track infrastructure is maintained within established tolerance levels of the assets, through proactive and reactive planning of works including resourcing and materials to meet the targets set in the management system and standards.

This includes internal teams and external contractors. Liaison with other Asset Teams, suppliers and stakeholders will be required.


Key Accountabilities

  • Communicate clear goals, provide direction and support delivery. Lead from the front in a visible accessible fashion; establish ways of effectively communicating the strategies and objectives of LT in a relevant and engaging fashion.
  • Interface on daily basis with Works Manager, Works inspector & Supervisors for management of deficiencies/deterioration in asset and ensuring that any work arising required to be undertaken is prioritised according to safety, reliability, reputational and cost criteria and clearly defined within the Ellipse asset management system.
  • Assign planned work and work arising from Elipse to the available resource, where agreed by the Works Manager procure additional labour, plant and materials as required for the successful completion of such works within acceptable timescales.
  • Ensure that resource is coordinated for all the scheduled planned and preventative works maintenance activities.
  • Liaise and procure with internal teams and external contractors where required
  • Carry out site visits and look at engineering requirements of short term and long term works arising
  • Perform procurement actions as required
  • Make sure that applicable LT IMS technical standards, are being implemented through their briefing and dissemination to the team. Where necessary advise the Works Manager of inaccuracies or deficiencies that may become apparent through their implementation.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of the principles of safe working and the HASAWA;
  • Knowledge of the requirements for the management of Safety Critical works and personnel
  • Knowledge of the principles of tramway / railway safety.

Skills:


  • A self starter capable of working on their own initiative;
  • An adaptable and flexible approach to work, capable of adjusting priorities to respond to daily challenges and opportunities;
  • Able to manage own time and work to tight timescales;
  • Able to explain requirements concisely and influence others to cooperate with the requirements for the business;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers;
  • Ability to develop effective relationships;

Experience:


  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role to include:
  • Experience in highway authority maintenance;
  • Experience in General Works practices including drainage, paving, fencing, earthworks, brickwork, vegetation, tree work
  • Experience in engineering and setting out (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Good Industry practices;
  • Experienced in the maintenance of records and maintenance of an audit trail
  • Able to use electronic asset management and collaborative working systems
  • Experienced and skilled in the use of other standard software packages including Microsoft Office/Word/Excel/PowerPoint
