Description

Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and complex needs. Our goal is to inspire hope and deliver change for everybody and every community we work with.

  • The Family Safeguarding Team is an innovative partnership model between Somerset County Council and a network of voluntary sector organisations. The wider Family Safeguarding Team is comprised of substance misuse, domestic abuse, adult mental health workers and children's social workers. Workers from specialist organisations join together to form one team working with families. The Family Safeguarding Team focuses on working to develop parents' strengths to positively change their behaviour and relationships in order to improve their children's lives. By assisting parents to make positive changes more children can stay at home with their birth family and thrive, not just survive.

Family Safeguarding is part of the Somerset Alliance - Open Mental Health. Open Mental Health is a ground-breaking model bringing together NHS, Statutory and Voluntary agencies to deliver targeted and holistic mental health support. Open Mental Health connects people to community resources, builds resilience and improves wellbeing through targeted interventions and a coordinated approach around the individual - with an ethos of "no wrong door". The Family Safeguarding service is supported by a Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Therapist to offer support to both clients and colleagues.
