Our established client is looking to recruit an
Interim Head of Student Services to manage the effective delivery of integrated, efficient and effective Student Services.


The aim of this role is to enable student progression and to maximise achievement through the provision of appropriate learning and personal support for students.

You will successfully manage a small team to ensure the delivery of effective student services.


Key Duties

  • To manage the effective delivery of a range of Student Services, to include: Careers Information, Advice and Guidance; Counselling Service; Financial Advice and Support; Student Progression, Coaching and Mentoring Services; and Student Specialist Support (ALS), to maximise success rates for students
  • To line manage the Information Advice and Guidance Leader, Learner Support Coordinator, Counselling Coordinator and Student Finance Assistant
  • To ensure the effective deployment and management of staff within Student Services
  • To report relevant information to monitor and analyse the service, and to inform future decision making
  • To deal with day to day relevant correspondence
  • To carry out designated activities as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to include relevant staff development to ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • To develop effective external working partnerships and maintain effective links with external support agencies and organisations in order to provide additional support for students in line with their specific needs
  • To maintain best practice regarding the organisation and delivery of an effective Student Service, working in close conjunction with external organisations and internally with Heads of School, Subject Sector Leaders, Programme Tutors, other relevant staff, to ensure student needs are met
  • To ensure effective communication and working relationships are maintained with relevant staff across the College to maximise student achievement
  • To ensure the efficient management of the ALS budget and that ALS targets are met and administrative tasks are completed accurately in line with audit requirements
  • To oversee the effective disbursement of learner support funds to students, ensure funding rules are met and optimised for the benefit of students and other stakeholders whilst maintaining the financial viability of the College
  • To work in close conjunction with the Schools and other teaching departments regarding Additional Learning Support (ALS) needs, ensuring that the Student Support Policy shared vision of ALS is implemented effectively and College policy and procedures are adhered to
  • To be responsible for the effective administration of student DBS checks and security checks, ensuring safety and accuracy, in line with College procedures
  • To ensure active participation in student induction by organising the delivery of a range of Student Service induction talks
  • To be responsible for maintaining and improving Quality Service Standards for Student Services, including the preparation of the Student Services Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP)
  • To provide high quality leadership in the areas of equality and diversity, safeguarding, including Prevent, to ensure that the College fulfils its strategic aims
  • To chair the Equality and Diversity Committee and support the embedding of the College Single Equality Scheme and Action Plan
  • To be fully conversant with the College's range of safeguarding policies and procedures, to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all students and staff;
  • To measure the success rates, retention, achievement and recruitment of supported learners by different equality strands and put in place action plans to address any underperformance
  • To actively participate in the College's appraisal scheme, undertaking further personal and professional development in line with the needs of the College and ensuring the effective development of all staff

Requirements:


  • Qualified to Degree Level
  • Relevant specialist qualification e.g. Careers, Child protection, Coaching and mentoring
  • Possess a wide range of knowledge and experience of management of Student Services in the FE sector
  • Broad knowledge of the range support services to students
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, including interview skills and a pleasant telephone manner
  • Ability to lead a team effectively and establish a clientcentred, supportive and responsive team working ethos and approach
  • Experience of budget management
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent administrative skills

This is a full-time, temporary role (37 hours per week). Likely to last approximately 3 months - to start ASAP.

Salary £40,225 to 44,724 DOE
