Job description:

The Cities and Local Growth Unit (CLGU) is an innovative jointly owned Unit of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

We lead Government's decentralisation and local economic growth agenda.

We empower all places - from rural areas to major cities, from prosperous places to those facing challenges in the modern economy - to bolster their potential through boosting economic growth.

We do this by connecting places and government through our outstanding combination of regional and Whitehall based teams.

The CLGU Areas Directorate comprises place-based teams whose role is to grow effective partnerships between central government and local growth bodies.

This includes having lead oversight for economic development programmes in particular places; managing the relationship between central government and local growth institutions like Mayoral Combined Authorities; and providing expert advice on the economic, social and political reality of our places, to ensure central government's local growth policy and programmes have the maximum positive impact in our places.

We are passionate believers in the value of local expertise and the need for a "Beyond Whitehall" mentality, and we live this in our daily work linking central government to local institutions, communities and businesses.

As an Area Coordinator you will play a key role in monitoring and delivering local growth programmes across the region.

You will also develop a network of contacts and a wealth of knowledge about the area, which will be used to brief Ministers and support policy development.

You will be required to develop a good understanding of local growth programmes, including the Levelling Up Fund, Towns Fund, Future High Streets Fund, UKSPF, Investment Zones and play a critical role in funding delivery including the assessment and assurance of funding for local bids.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop place-based programme and project delivery experience, is confident and adept in working with external partners, can draft high quality briefing for a range of audiences, and effectively engages in corporate activities to drive a high performing team culture.

You'll need to be able to see the bigger picture, work at pace and remain calm when things get busy - as they often do.
