Description

Psoriasis, eczema and HS are some of the long term conditions of the skin which can be treated with systemic and biologic drugs.

Biologic drugs have been designed to mimic normal human molecules.

They are used to treat a number of conditions and they reduce inflammation by preventing over activity of part of the immune system.

There are several biologic drugs currently licensed for use with people suffering from moderate to severe psoriasis.

Biologics are expensive relatively new drugs we cannot prescribe them without first checking that patients meet all the criteria set by NICE.

Systemic treatments are available as tablets all of them require clinical assessment and tests before a patient starts (usually blood tests) to check that it will be safe for patients once a patient has started treatment they will need to attend regular follow up and further monitoring blood tests.
