Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

Location - Newton Abbot

Pay rate - £80 - £90 per day.

Duration - Long-term until end of July and could lead to a permanent role.

Start date - Immediate.


Timeplan Education are working with a secondary school in Newton Abbot to recruit an additional SEN Teaching Assistant to become part of their team.

The school is part of a large MAT with a focus on sports.

The school is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistantwho shares in their ethos of inspiring pupils to be the very best version of themselves and has a key focus on care, support, and guidance.

This position is full-time (Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm), long-term and available to start immediately.


As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your role with include:

  • Working with small groups or on a 1:1 basis with students who have ASD, ADHD, SEMH and some elements of challenging behaviour.
  • Supporting in developing selfconfidence and social interaction skills
  • Encouraging pupils to take pride in their achievements, be confident in group participation and in sharing ideas, as well as respecting those of others.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff.


For this role, it is essential that you have the experience to build strong rapport with the students, capturing their interest in forming a bond with you, based on trust and mutual respect.

You will need to represent yourself as a positive role model forthe pupils, supporting them to appropriately manage their behaviour and emotions, by helping and guiding them to channel these in a healthy and calm manner.

You will support them to help understand their frustrations, and how to work through/resolve them fora positive outcome, ensuring that they feel cared for and listened to.

You will set boundaries, routine, and support the pupils to respect and engage in these, as an effective behaviour management technique.


Experience required:


The right person for this job will be calm, supportive and nurturing, but with the ability to be firm but fair where needed.

You will be someone that pupils can look to for support and advice, as well as someone that they look up to and respect.

You willensure that they feel safe, secure and confident in asking for help and channelling their emotions effectively.

  • Previous experience of working with children or young people in a school, youth club, activity or sports setting.
  • Good child safeguarding knowledge.
