This role has a starting salary of £25,738 per annum, based on a 28.8 hour working week (£32,173 FTE).


We are now seeking a paper
Conservator to join the archives and local studies team, dedicated to collecting, preserving and providing access to the historic records of the county of Surrey which range in date from the 12th to the 21st century.


Surrey Heritage based at Surrey History Centre, Woking, is a high quality integrated service for the people of Surrey and others with an interest in Surrey's past.

Within Heritage, the nationally accredited archive service works closely with the other services in Cultural Services, part of the Customer and Communities Directorate, in delivering the Council's strategic objectives.


What will you be doing?

About you

  • You will have a recognised qualification in conservation or be working towards such a qualification.
  • You will also have relevant practical experience in an archive conservation setting of cleaning, repairing, and packaging historic documents and will have a careful, methodical approach to work and an eye for detail.
  • As you will be the only conservation professional employed by the service an ability to organise your own workload and make independent professional judgements will be essential.
