About the Department
The European Ceramics Department is the international market leader with four dedicated sales a year in London and Paris, in addition to single-owner sales.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In your role as Specialist, you will be required to carry out the following:
- Appraisal and valuation of property in the office and on location (including European travel)
- Research and catalogue works coming up for sale, including academic footnotes and detailed condition reports
- Develop businessgetting strategies with Senior Specialists
- Maintain and support the ongoing development of a departmental database of customers and maintain contact with established clients to encourage further business with the company
- Liaise with the marketing department to promote the businessgetting and sales activities of the department
- Work with the rest of the team on proposal documents and pitches for business.
- Assist with organising catalogue photography, layout and design to ensure timely delivery to printers
- Assist the team with organising exhibitions and events worldwide Maintain an awareness of our competitors' strategies to maintain the competitive position of this department in the market
Key Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of and genuine interest in European Ceramics of the 16th20th centuries
- Excellent research skills, thoroughness, and ability to write to a scholarly standard
- Good market and trend awareness
- Degree holder or equivalent
- A good level of specialist expertise achieved through a previous role
- Proven business acumen and valuation skills
- Functional working knowledge of the whole auction process and related procedures
- Flexible and receptive to change
- Excellent time management and organisation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral
- Able to work as part of team, and independently
- Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
- Excellent attention to detail
- Basic understanding of international export laws and requirements and around KYC and Additional language(s) would be an advantage
