Home) Qualified Nursing Staff (Nursing Home)
JOB PURPOSE:
To assist in the provision of care and work as part of a team to achieve required standards. To ensure Residents retain their dignity and individuality. To be involved in the general activities of the Home /Unit.
ABOUT THE CARE HOME:
Care Home with nursing,a purpose-built 81-bed care home located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Our specialist team here provides nursing care, dementia nursing care, as well as short term rehabilitation care and accommodation which supports the diagnosis and treatment of some long term conditions.
Commended by the Gold Standards Framework recognised by the Department of Health for end of life care, we are nationally recognised as a quality provider of nursing and specialist dementia care.
We help residents lead full and independent lives, encouraging them to continue their hobbies and interests, while offering up some new experiences, too.
We adopt a person-centred approach so your loved one is treated with dignity and compassion for a home away from home.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Care:
Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting Residents, when required, with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and all other aspects of daily living.
Assist Residents in all aspects of their care
Closely monitor Residents who may be confused and / or who have behavioral problems.
Assist in the promotion of continence.
Assist in the delivery of care for Residents who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last offices.
Observe care planning needs for Residents and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company's policies and procedures.
Answer Nurse call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Home's disposal of waste policy
Assist Residents who need help during meal times
Training & Development:
Complete the Care Certificate
Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off-site, as and when required
Participate in relevant QCF/NVQ training to achieve required qualifications.
Health & Safety:
Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or another.
Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Home's Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
Promote safe working practice with the Home.
Skills/Qualifications:
Experience of caring for older people gained at work in a voluntary capacity or at home is essential
Experience of undertaking a similar role is desirable.
To have an understanding of the needs of older people in residential and nursing settings is desirable
Ability to communicate effectively and work with and for older people is essential
Ability to communicate effectively and work with a wide range of colleagues is essential
Ability to use a range of equipment in providing safe care to residents after training is essential
Literacy and numeracy skills in order to undertake written work associated with the post is essential
Ability to work on a rostered shift basis including weekends and public holidays and to flexibly respond to the requirement to provide twenty-four hour care is essential
Physically fit to undertaken the range of tasks involved in providing a nursing service to residents is essential
