Key Responsibilities As a member of the spinal injuries team support the review and development of the annual departmental education, training and development plans and ensure they remain relevant and contributory to Corporate plans.

To plan and maximise opportunities to deliver work-based learning for student nurses and non medical registered workforce Support the monitoring, recording and reporting of student activity.

Support and maintain the mentor register To support the development and implementation of the Trusts model of clinical supervision As a member of the Spinal injuries team, support the development, maintainance and implementation of a competency based framework for all areas of clinical practice Be competent and expert in the safe and secure handling of medicines and supervise and assess junior staff learning these skills.

To be responsible for the management and organisation of own workload.


Acknowledge any limitations in own knowledge and competency and decline any duties or responsibilities unless able to perform them in a safe a competent manner.

Develop specialist knowledge and expertise of nursing practice to act as a resource for other staff. Show an awareness of your own capabilities and area for improvement. Ensure attendance and completion of all mandatory study days of self and others.


Provide guidance and support to staff on problems affecting their work Share knowledge, skills and experience and work collaboratively with colleagues.

Recognise and value the individuality of team members whilst displaying sensitivity to others feelings and needs.

Participate in the patient education and teach externally to the wider spinal community Participate and contribute to meetings within the organisation, provide feedback and action as necessary.

Act as a role model, promoting excellence of practice through education, leadership, advice and support and clinical skills teaching in clinical areas.

Create an environment to support inter and multi professional working and learning in practice. Inspire others to recognise the value of education which underpins and takes practice forward. Provide professional educational support for unregistered, student nurses and registered staff members.

Support and enable the availability of suitab;y qualified mentors / sign off mentors to meet demand Enable junior staff to develop their knowledge and skills through support and education in the clinical area.

Recognise, communicate and praise the achievements of the team and the individuals within team. Undertake the responsibilities of a mentor.

Promote a positive learning environment for students and junior staff within the multidisciplinary team and liaise closely with the educational link colleagues.

Support the development of a learning environment which encourages everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice Act as a resource for evidence based knowledge for practice development for all staff Ensure that individuals specific learning needs are addressed Work in collaboration with clinical managers and senior nurses to guide the implementation and recommendations arising from the practice review audits.


To participate in clinical audits and support wards managers in the development of action plans to support education arising from audit.
