Research Associate in Computational Modelling - Sheffield, United Kingdom - University of Sheffield
Description
We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for someone with a passion for Engineering looking to use their skills in Computational Modelling to make an impact on the huge societal challenge of achieving net zero.
This multidisciplinary project, funded by DESNZ (formerly known as BEIS) through the Energy Entrepreneur's Fund, will support the UK's net¬-zero targets for 2050 by tackling a key challenge to the adoption of future nuclear power: the need for safe, secure and cost¬ effective spent nuclear fuel disposal solutions.
The broad objective of the project is to engineer a corrosion-¬resistant canister capable of safely encapsulating spent fuel elements within deep boreholes in isolated rock formations deep beneath the biosphere.
The advertised Research Associate position involves quantitative modelling of long-term safety performance of the canister in UK geology and will include heat flow modelling and stress analysis utilising Finite Element and Finite Volume computational methodologies.
The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect.
