Job Description:

We are looking for a Senior UX Researcher to join the Times and Sunday Times product design team.


You will join a team that defines the digital product experiences for , mobile apps, newsletters, subscriber journeys and editorial publishing tools.


You will be self-motivated, have a fascination with user solving problems, and be at ease working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.

You will be passionate about developing a suite of products that will engage our subscribers so they get the best experience possible when reading The Times and The Sunday Times.

You will be brimming with creative ideas and have a demonstrable interest in current affairs and culture.


Key responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and execute user research studies using a variety of methodologies, including surveys, interviews, usability testing, and analytics.
  • Be the goto person for how and when to use these tools and techniques, ensuring we are validating ideas fully and approaching each project in the most usercentred way possible.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our users and their needs, behaviours, and preferences. Be an advocate for continuous discovery.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to incorporate user insights into the design and development process.
  • Analyse and synthesise research findings to inform product decisions and drive usercentred design solutions.
  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Advise and coach more junior members of the team on the right way to approach research, helping build a strong research practice within the organisation.

Skills and experience

Strong experience in user research Deep understanding and knowledge of industry-standard user research techniques and tools.

Excellent communication skills The ability to collaborate with other disciplines, to sell your ideas confidently, while always knowing when to push and when to pull. Experience of facilitating working sessions with cross-functional teams.

UX/UI standards Understanding of human-centred design principles. A track record of making impactful change through smart, data-driven UX implementation. Strong knowledge of the latest industry standards in web and app user experience.

Attention to detail An awareness of product design trends and to care deeply about delivering beautiful, user-centred solutions. Be keen to self-evaluate your work, but always be open to feedback from peers.

Research Happy taking part and conducting research with readers, interpreting results, identifying needs and putting them into action.

Keeping a cool head The ability to deliver on time in a fast-paced environment with short and long-term deadlines.

Think creatively The skill to think independently and problem solve, not just accept what is being presented - always ask 'What is the problem we are trying to solve?'. Be enthusiastic about an idea and bring people along with you.

Industry experience Nice to have - editorial/publishing or subscriber-based product experience, but not essential.

Collaboration Collaboration is key. A lot of stakeholders means a lot of discussions - it's good to talk, but you should know when you need to crack on to hit that deadline.
